Since 2005, Team 10 has served the communities of Collinsville, Maryville, Caseyville, Fairmont City, and the unincorporated communities served by the Collinsville Unit 10 School District. The need for effective alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention in the communities that feed into the Collinsville Community Unit School District #10. The need for effective alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention in our communities is not necessarily any greater or different from other communities in this area. We are fortunate in that, in this area, we have community members willing to put efforts into making our communities as place for young people to reach their full potential.
In 2008, Team 10 applied and received Federal funding from the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) under the Drug Free Communities grant program. This grant program provided Team 10 with 5 years of funding at approximately $100,000 per year. At the end of the initial 5 years, Team 10 will be able to apply for an additional 5 years of funding. For more information on the Drug Free Communities grant program, visit www.ondcp.gov/dfc.
Team 10 is guided by a Steering Committee which consists of a Grant Project Director, a Grant Project Coordinator, Grant Project Evaluator, an elected Chairperson and Secretary, a parent, and other active representatives from the Madison County Health Department, Illinois State Police, Junvenile Diversion, Coordinated Youth and Human Services. Chestnut Health Systems is the fiscal agent for Team 10 and provides the coalition with the Grant Project Director and Coordinator. Southern Illinois Univeristy Edwardsville provides the Grant Evaluator.
Other members of the coalition are: American Cancer Society, Chestnut Health Systems, Collinsville Herald Journal, Collinsville High School Youth Organizatin (Kahoks Against Drugs & Alcohol), Collinsville-Maryville-Troy YMCA, Collinsville Police Department, Collinsville Community Unit School District #10, Coordinated Youth & Human Sercies' Take Action Drug Free Community Coalition, Gary Peccola of Peccola Construction & CUSD#10 School Board President, Illinois State Police, Madison County Health Department, Parents in the communities, Puentes de Esperanza, Son-Life & Juvenile Diversion, and Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation.
The key to Team 10's success is that all of the members contribute significant efforts to the planning and projects of the coalition. Also, the communities involved contribute local funds and support equal to the Federal Grant dollars. Collaboration is what keeps Team 10 effective and impactful.
